Beauty in Brazil

We've been enjoying the quiet beauty of Ircambi, birds, flowers and thankfully lots of trees. Occasional flocks of green parrots fly by and loads of hummingbirds buzz through. Here are matthieu, bob and shane up at the sawmill at Iracambi.

Final Presentations!!!

I think our last class went extremely well! I learned a lot from The Kiva Presentation. I will start hosting a Kiva banner later this evening(after I've made a loan of my own)! I've already made them a friend on MySpace.
Thank you Audra and Chunla for being such great team members, I think our presentation rocked too!
It was also heartening to see the final products of all we've been learning. IT is such a new topic for me that the class went by in a bit of a swirl, but lo and behold substantial, conctere knowledge was formed. Thank you for that Catherine!
I'll continue to update my blog, particularly during my practicum, as well as maintain MySpace. I hope you all visit me!

Great Class April 23rd

I really enjoyed hearing about SITs IT situation first hand. Thank you for having a guest speaker Catherine!
We're all working hard on our final projects...

Finally linking to the rest of the web

I ran into Chris in the IC and he told me about the link buton to create text links, But when I got home alas ther was no link button on my page so... I've learned my first bit of html code. It's pretty straight forward (once you memorize it).

Is anyone else looking forward to the new Harry Potter movie?

Springtime in Vermont

Finally, Some nice weather. I recently saw a group of people putting out the buckets for collecting maple sap, it took me a few minutes to figure out what they were doing. Since it was in a park-like area I originally thought they were nailing trash containers to trees, duh.

Midterm Madness

We're rounding third base, coming into the home stretch! Lots of papers and presentations loom on the horizon. I've learned a great deal of interesting issues in Information Technology and how they will affect my future career. Mot much to ask for in the coming weeks, just more of the same.

Great Site!

My Stepfather told me about a great site www.pandora.com You type in the name of your favorite band or song and the site creats a radio show of similar music, introducing you to new artists. Each mix they've made for me has been fantastic. I've added the site to my "Just for Fun section".

Red Bellied Woodpecker

This guy is quite big for a woodpecker. He only comes around occasionally.

Winged Migration

there is a pair of European Starlings that have recently started visiting our suet feeder, along with the nut hatches and chickadees. Fun bird fact... nut hatches understand chickadee warning calls.

In the style of Anne

I thought Anne's personal map was just too cool to pass up.

No Go on the Interview...

Unfortunately, the guy on the other end of my skype interview was having internet connection problems, so the interview had to be rescheduled.
The internet here in campus today is dreadfully slow, the EdTech people said it is a server problem and they're working on it...
I can't open up the ACB news link. I'll try again tomorrow.

How is the connection in town?

Skype

I've just set up a skype account, my contact is mary.robinson31, very similar to my blog address. I'll be using skype for the first time tomorrow for a practicum interview, hopefully the technical part of it will go more smoothly than the webex experiment did. I've also updated Mario's link on this page.

Comments from Monday's class

Monday was an exercise in patience. While it was admittedly frustrating, I found the situation an interesting juxtoposition to the Tunis piece, where their lofty goals were to get the sort of access we're using (or attempting to). I agree with Audra in that the paper encompasses "lofty" goals, but at the same time, mediocre goals this late in the game just won't aim sights high enough.

Anne's input about copyrights I also found very appropriate. The debates about the length of copywrite (or the legal write to "own" ideas at all) is one that I would like to go into further in class, especially inlight of the success of open-source software.

I've also taken a few minutes and looked at other clasmates links, there is a lot of really good stuff out there!

I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for more good liks to add to my site, hopefully all of you will get some use out of them.

Found a New Quiz

hey this is fun, the South Park Personality Quiz...
find the link to your right on my links list

Times are Changing!

Yep, it's time to change the clocks again. For some reason I thought we changed them on the 21st (the first day of spring).
I've received the text book for the IT class and am looking forward to trying out the webex online classroom.

Cool New Quiz, Thanks Anne!

You Are a Chimera

You are very outgoing and well connected to many people.
Incredibly devoted to your family and friends, you find purpose in nurturing others.
You are rarely alone, and you do best in the company of others.
You are incredibly expressive, and people are sometimes overwhelmed by your strong emotions.

Learning Goals

My learning goals for this class are to explore the use of technology in NGOs (big or small), especially seeing how they can optimize operations. The rapidly expanding nature of technology, especially in previously tech. challenged areas excites me. Along with this, I'm looking forward to the discussions surrounding Web 2.0 and its potential. It's also very important to me to have a handful of real-world IT management skills to offer potential employers.

here's lookin' at you!

Yes I'm beautiful, I know. I'm even better looking in person if you can believe it! Ha Ha, just kidding. It really takes hours of make-up and professional lighting to look like this.

Wednesday!

The day has been going well. My class, Leadership and Change, is helping me along my path to world domination. Once I get this Information Technology stuff down, I'll be unstoppable.
Lately I've been musing over what the plaques will read on monuments in my honor:
"Unquenchable blood lust..." "Pestilence followed her like dolphins playing in a wake" sound impressive don't they! Oprah eat your heart out!
